We are a San Diego based digital marketing firm focused on social media management, digital marketing strategy, email marketing, content creation, and LinkedIn Lead Generation
We work in various Industries including:
Architecture, Technology, Home Improvement, Travel and Leisure, Restaurants and Bars, and of course Entertainment.
In 2013 I went to San Diego Comic Con and everything changed. My name is Martha D Staab and I am the founder of MDMC Entertainment. I was working for a home improvement company in San Diego and when I stepped foot into my first comic con, I said "It's basically a trade show for nerds!" and I loved that. The mental doors opened for me and I realized marketing can be done for anything and everything. Comic con and all things pop culture were things I loved and made it a goal to work in this industry.
After comic con I went home and started a blog under a fictional name and started writing about all things pop culture. I wrote about a project an actor was in and he reached out to me. We started talking about what I did and what his future projects were. We then decided to collaborate and he became my first client.
While I was working my 9-5 I was working on my side projects on weeknights and weekends. Like that quote "Don't work 8 hours for a company then go home and not work on your own goals. You're not tired, you're uninspired." Working with my client I found myself going to more local comic cons in Southern California to promote his new project. I quickly found myself meeting more and more people in the industry and I started getting invited to events. Then I fell into the Power Rangers fandom.
I got involved with the Power Rangers fandom in 2016. A couple of years prior I had become friends with a Power Ranger but I hadn't fully submerged myself into that life. By October of 2016 I had started working with multiple Power Rangers on various marketing efforts. In 2017 I partnered with an agent and she started referring me clients. That was also the same year I started to travel with talent to shows around the US. Traveling was done to ensure marketing efforts for the talent and the agency was done so we had plenty of content to appease the show promoters and ourselves.
I was working a full time job at a family owned business and working on my side projects on spare time. My full time job was a digital marketer and increasing the digital footprint of that company. For close to 3 years I was helping this family owned business set in place marketing tactics that would produce lead generation, revenue growth, content creation, customer retention and website traffic. These tactics had never been done so it was like working with a clean slate and growing from nothing. Those types of projects are my favorite. I love seeing the fruits of my labor grow and flourish and most importantly pumping of millions of dollars of sales into the company.
I truly felt complete with having the best of both worlds, giving my all to a 9-5 and having fun stretching my marketing muscles with endeavors that fed my passion. I woke up one morning and my entire life turned upside down. I didn't ask for it to happen but it did. I walked into my office and about 30 minutes after I had settled in, I got called into an office and was told I was being let go. The shock hit me hard and I was so confused. All of my efforts were working, we had just celebrated a really big milestone a couple of weeks prior to this. I didn't fight, I didn't yell I just stood up collected a box I was given and packed up my office just one month shy of my 3 year anniversary.
Looking back what makes me the most upset is that I gave this company the blueprint on how to turn their business into a multi-million dollar business. This company was surviving with a review site giving them leads. I expanded their footprint and lead generation. I gave them every social media account, every new platform they didn't know about, management tools, landing page technology, Adwords techniques and I didn't get a thank you for it. All I was told was "Sorry for the shitty timing.." I was kicked out. The GM, my boss, the owner, no one said thank you or good-bye. I felt like trash. No party, no cake, no flowers, no sympathy just a final paycheck. While I was packing up my office my mind raced about what I was going to do next. I left with my world in pieces.
As any normal person does after something like this, I was scrambling to pick up the pieces of my broken life. My 9-5 paid my bills, my side endeavors were not really high paying so it wasn't like I could just start collecting massive checks from these people. I started applying to everything I could. Like a mad woman holding crazy glue I did everything I could to land on my feet fast and put the pieces of my life back together but it wasn't enough...
I talked to a spouse of one of my rangers and he said "Time for you to go into business for yourself!!" I was like "Nah I need something that pays!!" In fact a lot of my closest friends told me to turn what I was doing on the side into a full-time gig. To be honest, I didn't have time to focus all my energies into this, I knew I was a skilled marketer and I should have no problem landing a job and owning a business would stay a pipe dream. So here I go rushing full force into the workforce fresh faced.
I branded myself in a unique way with a custom resume, matching cover letter and online portfolio and I hit the pavement. I was interviewing and I was interviewing a lot but after leaving an interview after another I would tell myself it wasn't a fit, it wasn't something i'd be happy doing. I just couldn't fit into these boxes these companies wanted me to fit in. I was loosing jobs for stupid reasons. I was lacking certifications in programs no companies buy or uses because they are too expensive to have or the position was re-tweaked and they went into a different direction. After 6 months of doors slamming in my face and being told I was "so talented but we went with someone else".. the lightbulb went off. I know what you're thinking "Everyone told you to go in this direction!!!" Here is the think, I'm slightly stubborn and I tend to think I know best.
There is nothing more humbling in life then falling smack dab on your face. I went to all these interviews and I left them feeling so unsatisfied. I needed to see for myself what was out there and I interviewed with some pretty amazing companies but it wasn't a fit for me. I knew I didn't want to spend 20 years at one company to market one thing, I wanted to work with people that were doing amazing and exciting things. A variety of things, not just one thing, that's how you get better as a marketer and that is where professional growth is.
I decided that MDMC Entertainment should be born and I started taking on new clients and projects.
