By Dominique Singer Things You Should Celebrate as a Business Owner Achieving your goals as a business owner is important, but celebrating your achievements is even more special! Celebrate, by definition, means to “acknowledge a significant or happy day or event. Celebrating can look a million different ways such as taking a moment to yourself and recognizing all the hard work you have put into something or a huge dinner celebration with friends and family. So you might be asking yourself what is worth celebrating or what should I be celebrating as a business owner?
The answer is easy - whatever you feel like celebrating! There are no “rules” when it comes to what you want to celebrate as a business owner. Oftentimes we as humans hold back our tendencies to celebrate ourselves. The idea of celebrating as a business owner is less of “how” you celebrate, but more so what are you celebrating and how often you are practicing this. To start off, even starting a business is worth celebrating. In fact, even coming up with the idea of your business and actually going through with it is worth a celebration as most of the human population would not go past this step. Taking the risk to invest your time and money into something you are passionate about should be celebrated. Branching off of that, all “firsts” should be celebrated. In life all of our firsts are celebrated with those who are closest with us so why would we not do the same for our business which in retrospect is like our “baby.” Your first sale, your first client, your first employee etc. Just because something is celebrated does not mean it has to be this extravagant party, but these special moments as a business owner should be recognized because it is not easy to get to.
Each business is unique and all milestones look very different, but celebrating them leads to growth which in the overall picture is the goal. Also, celebrating milestones in your business fuels you and your employees to strive to reach the next one! In this fast paced environment we are living in, celebrations allow the entire company to slow down and take a step back and recognize all the efforts put into the product. Business owners who find this key component of a perfect balance of work and life are the most successful.
As a business owner, taking a step back and not only analyzing the milestones of your business, but more so your personal achievements is equally as important. Growth in your social skills, personality, income, happiness are all things to celebrate no matter how small they might be in relation to your actual business. Again, these do not have to be big celebrations, but more so acknowledgements can contribute to growth in your business and yourself. The same thing goes for your employees individually. Implementing bonuses and promotions are of course always appreciated, but even something as simple as a handwritten note when an employee does something very important or spectacular can go a long way in their personal lives and career.
In the end, no one is around to tell you how and what you should celebrate as a business owner, but it is a practice that should be integrated into your business. Celebrations allow people to recognize the hard work you as a business owner have put in as well as your employees.
